YALSA’s Teens’ Top Ten

Your voice can be heard!

Every year the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) sponsors a contest to select the best ten books of the previous year.  Teen book groups from around the country have nominated their favorite new titles.  Check out this year’s list at http://www.ala.org/teenstopten.

Start reading now because during the months of August and September anyone between the ages of 12-18 can vote online for their top 3 choices.  The winners will be announced during Teen Read Week October 14-20, 2012.

I’m too old to vote, but my top three are:

The Fault in Our Stars          This Dark Endeavor             Divergent

Tolkien goes plastic!

Do you love J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit  and The Lord of the Rings  trilogy?  Have you watched all three movies and can’t wait for The Hobbit  to hit theaters in December?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions then you may be happy to hear that LOTR has now teamed up with LEGO!

http://thelordoftherings.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx

The LEGO website is very vague about what new sets will be available or when they will come out, but after some hard-hitting investigative work (um…Google image search and calling the LEGO store at Easton) I was able to find several images of sets online that will be available sometime in July.

Around my house we are pretty excited about this new partnership.  We are huge fantasy fans and have read all of the aforementioned Hobbit and LOTR books.  I have seen all the movies and while I enjoyed them I must admit that I think The Hobbit  will be the best yet.  I really like the actor  Martin Freeman who plays Bilbo Baggins and this was my favorite of all the books.   As for LEGO’s, we love them!  We have well over a billion LEGO pieces in my house (or at least it seems that way when I am having to constantly pull them out of my puppy’s mouth or stepping on them in the dark) and these will be definite must-have’s this summer.  Oh, and I forgot to mention the best part…come this summer I can have my own mini Orlando Bloom.

If you haven’t yet read any of the hobbit adventures then you should head to the UAPL catalog and get yourself a copy of The Hobbit  today.  Once the movie comes out the books will fly off the shelves and we know that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie!  Watch the trailer below and happy reading/building!
